Senator Landrieu's Enigma
As one of her constituents, I disagree vehemently with Mary Landrieu on the right to sue oil corporations for all of the damage they have done to Louisiana's environment. I also highly disagree with her on the Keystone XL pipeline. It is a disaster looking for a place to happen. And I have a feeling, that place will be Louisiana!
Already BP has left a 1200 mile oil slick on the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico which they will never be forced to clean up. What about when the pipeline contaminates our drinking water aquifers?! All of these chemical plants throughout the state have already polluted our recreational and fishing waters. We were once called "sportsman paradise", but not any more The crabs and fish are dying out, and the ones that are left are contaminated almost to the point of being inedible. I realize that it wasn't Ms. Landrieu that caused or allowed all of this to happen, but her policies would allow all of this to continue. My position is that we should begin to try and reverse these decades long disastrous policies in this state. We have traded off our environment for jobs, and yes it's true they are good paying jobs. but it was a choice that has not been good for the states environment. But the jobs (wind, solar energy and others) that would be needed to rectify the damage big oil has done will be good paying jobs also. This is Louisiana's chance to get it right.
As much as I disagree with Ms. Landrieu on these issues, I agree with her on all other positions she has taken. And as far as her re-election is concerned, I endorse her over any republican in the entire country. I hope that upon reentry into office, that she will reconsider her thinking on these two matters, and find some kind of alternative solution to the oil question. So Godspeed Mary. Serve us well!
